Hair Transplant Methods

When dealing with hair loss, men and women most commonly use hair transplants to restore hair. A hair transplant allows men and women to take hair from one area of the scalp and move it to another area of the head that needs the hair. Then after the transplant is complete, the transplanted hair roots itself and begins to grow. In order to accomplish the desired look, two different hair transplant methods are used. Below you will be able to read more details about the two transplant methods Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) and Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT).

Hair Transplant Method 1:

The first method, Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) is a medical advancement in the which individual hair follicles are harvested for hair transplants. Using advanced follicular unit extraction (FUE) methods, the surgeon is able to classify and remove a single follicle from the donor area at either the back or side of the head. The single hair follicle is then transplanted into a puncture in the patient's balding or thinning area. The Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) method involves no stitches, no visible scaring, minimal bleeding and no swelling.

Hair Translant Method 2:

Using the second method, Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT), a strip of skin is removed from an area the scalp, and from that strip, “follicular units” are transplanted in small graft sections from the strip to areas that are balding. This type of transplant mimics natural hair growth, and is identical to one’s original hair growth patterns. In fact, this technique can be used to create different levels of density to allow for a more natural look. These tiny hair grafts can also be placed into very small recipient sites, where minimal damage is caused to the skin, as the healing  takes a few days and leaves no marks. This method looks natural due to the smaller grafts that are used during the surgery.

The method of hair transplantation recommended for individual patients will depend on a number of different factors if the patient is a suitable candidate for a successful hair transplant. Cosmetic surgeons may recommend using the Norwood or Ludwig scale to determine the extent of hair loss.
